Start Your Journey with Ledger

Welcome to the official Ledger onboarding page. If you’ve just purchased your Ledger Nano X or Ledger Nano S Plus, you’re in the right place. This step-by-step guide will help you set up your hardware wallet securely and give you full control over your cryptocurrency security.

Why Use a Hardware Wallet?

Unlike software wallets or exchanges, a hardware wallet keeps your private keys offline. This means you’re protected from online threats like phishing attacks, malware, or hacked exchanges. With Ledger devices, your crypto stays in your hands.

Step 1: Unbox and Power On

Inside your Ledger package, you’ll find your device, a USB cable, recovery sheets, and instructions. Connect your Ledger Nano X or Nano S Plus to your computer using the provided cable. Follow the on-screen instructions to initialize the device.

Step 2: Download Ledger Live

Go to ledger.com/start and download the official Ledger Live application for your operating system. Ledger Live is your dashboard for managing crypto assets, updating firmware, installing apps, and checking balances securely.

Step 3: Set a PIN Code

Choose a secure PIN code. This code protects your device from unauthorized access. Memorize it and do not share it with anyone. Your PIN adds a layer of defense in case the device is lost or stolen.

Step 4: Write Down Your Recovery Phrase

This is the most critical step in setting up your crypto wallet. You’ll be shown a 24-word recovery phrase. Write it down on the recovery sheet provided and keep it in a safe, offline location. This phrase is the only way to restore your wallet if the device is lost or damaged.

Step 5: Confirm Your Recovery Phrase

Your Ledger device will ask you to confirm your recovery phrase by selecting the correct words. This ensures you’ve written them down accurately. Never take a photo or store this phrase digitally.

Step 6: Add Accounts

Open Ledger Live, go to “Accounts,” and click “Add account.” Choose from supported crypto assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Solana. The app will install the necessary apps onto your Ledger device.

Step 7: Transfer Crypto

You’re now ready to receive and send cryptocurrencies. From within Ledger Live, generate a receiving address. Always double-check addresses on the device screen to avoid scams.
